Chronic pain is widespread and costly issue in Australia. It includes conditions such as IBS, fibromyalgia, chronic migraines, chronic back pain and many others. Unfortunately chronic pain is often not well understood or treated in mainstream medical services. However, we now have a large and growing body of research and techniques to effectively treat this condition using a “mind-body” scientific approach.
Many people are understandably highly distressed, scared and vigilant regarding their pain. Many people have also tried numerous other standard treatments for chronic pain without much success. We use techniques to help you calm your nervous system (your “alarm system”) in order to build a sense of safety in your body and thus deactivate pain signals. We also help to explore and address the factors that may have contributed to turning on this alarm system in the first place, such as trauma, perfectionism, self-criticism, and emotional avoidance. Many types of chronic pain can be effectively treated using these methods. We believe healing is possible, and hope for recovery is fundamental to this process.
